WEEKEND READING | Heart Health | PORTLAND, MAINE FOOD MAGAZINE

Today I am thinking of hearts, like the organ. A lot of research has proven that eating makes a difference physically, chemically and mentally.
What is CVD? MaineHealth defines CVD, gives examples of who is at risk and lists eating healthy as one of the three ways to prevent heart disease.
If you subscribe to Harvard Health Online you can access everything but some articles, like this one, are free. "Eating more whole grains is linked to a lower risk of heart disease and cancer", says Harvard Heart Letter.
I found a lovely minireview in Cell Metabolism that discusses connections between cardiovascular health and diet. This article specifically mentions whole grains, "There is also evidence that whole grains are associated with lower risks of diabetes (Aune et al., 2013) and CVD (Zong et al., 2016)."
Big Sky Bread Company can give you your whole grain hook up. They grow and grind organic wheat berries for MANY of their goods.
Go grab some bread, your heart will thank you and your taste buds too.
